Dr. David Kelton awarded 2023 Dairy Cattle Industry Distinction Award

Dr. David Kelton, professor emeritus in the Department of Population Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) has been recognized with Lactanet’s 2023 Dairy Cattle Industry Distinction Award during the Dairy Cattle Improvement Industry Forum in Quebec City on September 19.
Dr. Kelton is a highly decorated and respected scientist whose involvement in research initiatives addressing animal health and management issues in the dairy cattle industry has been key to Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC)’s proAction program.
A veterinary epidemiologist with M.Sc., PhD, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from the University of Guelph, Dr. Kelton’s research focused on resolving farm-based milk quality problems by addressing the control of important production limiting diseases such as mastitis, lameness and Johne’s Disease.
For the past ten years, he held the prestigious Dairy Farmers of Ontario Research Chair in Dairy Cattle Health at University of Guelph. He is currently chairing the Standing Committee on Animal Health and Welfare of the International Dairy Federation, serves on DFC’s Production Expert Scientific Advisory Committee, and is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
Dr. Kelton received the award along with Director of Genetics for Semex Pierre Laliberté and Lactanet CSO Brian Van Doormaal.
