OVC Facilities

Students have the opportunity to be a part of working clinics, hospitals and research centres during their studies. Observe and practice what will become your daily work after graduation and witness cutting edge developments in veterinary medicine.

Animal Cancer Centre

The Institute for Comparative Cancer Investigation (ICCI) is dedicated to providing comprehensive cancer care for companion animals and to unlocking the deadly secrets of the disease for the benefit of all species, including humans.

Launched in 2007, the institute is the first of its kind in Canada, combining our expertise in basic cancer biology and veterinary medicine through an integrated approach to cancer, unmatched in a human health care environment.

The centre's work involves collaborative research of more than 30 cancer investigators from a dozen departments across the university: cancer biologists, veterinarians, chemists, mathematicians, computer scientists, toxicologists, psychologists and others who represent Guelph's unique capacity to broaden the scope of research and deepen our understanding of cancer.

Health Sciences Centre

The Health Sciences Centre offers medical and surgical care for small and large animals, while training future veterinarians in a challenging clinical environment. We are a major window to the community for OVC and the University of Guelph.

Primarily a referral hospital, our field service also provides primary care for ruminant and swine clients on farms throughout the region.

The teaching hospital helps advance the field of veterinary medicine through clinically-based research and clinical service. We provide experiential, small, group learning that epitomizes the goals of the University of Guelph.

Hill’s Pet Nutrition Primary Healthcare Centre

The Hill's Pet Nutrition Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) operates as a fully functional veterinary clinic and an educational facility for veterinary students of the OVC specializing in primary care of local clients in a hands on setting.

Students contribute their skills and knowledge, providing care to companion animal patients and their owners, guided by veterinarians, technicians and upper-year students.

The centre uses unique hands-on learning to teach students to be skilled in evaluating and treating problems they will encounter on the job, while learning communication and relationship building. OVC graduates enter the workforce with the direct experiences they need to hit the ground running.
