OVC Professor Dr. Stephen LeBlanc appointed U of G Research Leadership Chair

Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) researcher and professor Dr. Stephen LeBlanc has been recognized with an appointment to a Research Leadership Chair at the University of Guelph. LeBlanc is a professor in OVC’s Department of Population Medicine and serves as Director of Dairy at Guelph, the university’s research centre for all things dairy.

Launched in 2017, the Research Leadership program recognizes mid- to late-career researchers at the University of Guelph nominated by their college for outstanding research contributions in their respective disciplines to the community.

“Stephen is well-known at the University of Guelph and beyond for his enthusiastic and energetic approach to research and teaching and the tremendous expertise and insight he provides to the dairy industry,” says Jeff Wichtel, Dean of Ontario Veterinary College. “Stephen provides invaluable leadership and guidance to colleagues, students, producers and industry experts every day, and we’re happy to see his efforts recognized.”

About Dr. Stephen LeBlanc

LeBlanc graduated from McGill University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. He then earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph in 1997, followed by his Doctor of Veterinary Science in 2001. He practiced veterinary medicine privately for five years before returning to OVC as a member of faculty in the Department of Population Medicine.

LeBlanc’s research focuses on reproductive health of dairy cattle and improving the prevention and treatment of reproductive disease in herds. His work has led to dairy management practices that optimize health and fertility. Recently, he and two  collaborators received $4 million dollars in funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Alliance program and industry partners to lead 15 research projects tackling herd health and sustainability.
