Description: 

The stem of a grain plant (typically wheat or barley) after harvest. It is harvested at full maturity and therefore provides little nutrient value due to the loss of seeds and leaves. Typically, straw is used as bedding but can be fed to cattle as an added fiber source. Straw is often chopped before use, as shown in the photo below.
