Management
Subheading:
Description:

Roughages should be fed before grains, as ruminants depend on microbes to properly digest their feed, and microbes require fiber and an environment that is consistently slightly acidic. Roughages stimulate chewing and salivation which buffer the rumen. The Forage:Concentrate (F:C) ratio for delivery is ideally 50:50, however with very high levels of management can range from 40:60 to 60:40. Highly fermentable feeds should be fed in smaller amounts in 3-4 meals to minimize rumen pH depression and potential rumen acidosis.
