Profile

Steven Roche is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Population Medicine and currently Director and Principal Consultant for ACER Consulting. As a research consultant and epidemiologist his interdisciplinary skill set blends epidemiological research, agricultural extension, and health promotion methodologies to understand and influence health outcomes. He has extensive experience conducting applied epidemiological research and designing, implementing, and evaluating knowledge mobilization programs and tools for industry, academic and government stakeholders in the agri-food and public health sphere. 

Research Interests

Dr. Roche's research focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of knowledge mobilization tools and programs in agriculture. More specifically he is interested in using theoretical frameworks to investigate and map the social determinants of health relating to infectious disease in populations. developing innovative communication approaches for achieving health outcomes, and designing, implementing, and evaluating population health interventions and programs.

  • Exploring knowledge and attitudes of farmers and their relationship to animal health
  • Evaluating tools and programs for motivating on-farm behaviour change
  • Designing and evaluating veterinarian training programs and industry quality assurance programs
