William McFarlane

I am a masters student in the lab of Dr. Charlotte Winder and Dr. Dave Renaud, studying Epidemiology.

Quick Facts...
-I did my undergrad at U of G, majoring in animal biology and minoring in zoology
-I did an undergraduate thesis in integrative biology, which resulted in a paper published in the Journal of Experimental Biology, in which I am first author.
-Possible directions I hope to go after my masters are: PhD in Epidemiology, Vet school or medical school; depending on what I am eligible for/accepted to.
-I grew up in North Bay, Ontario

Research Interests

The focus of my research is on non-ambulatory dairy cattle (downer cows). This is a common problem faced by the dairy industry where dairy cattle are unable to stand, which can be caused by a wide variety of factors. This syndrome results in financial loss for the producer, as well as poor welfare for affected dairy cattle.
