Profile

Carys is a graduate student in the department of Population Medicine with a specialization in epidemiology and One Health. Her thesis, supervised by Dr. Lauren Grant,  is focused on identifying social and environmental determinants of canine leptospirosis in Canada. Carys recently graduated Redeemer University with a BSc in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. At Redeemer, she also performed research analyzing fecal contamination in Hamilton watersheds using qPCR, and developed algorithms to solve complex chemical structures in Mathematica. 

Research Interests

Carys’ research interests include zoonotic diseases and One Health approaches to mitigate infectious disease spread. She is particularly interested in developing disease surveillance methods in animals/wildlife to prevent outbreaks in human populations.
