Mariana Martinez Ordonez

I am a foreign-trained dentist and a first-year MPH student. In my native country, Mexico, I worked as a research assistant in a neuroscience laboratory. There, I conducted behavioural experiments involving neuropathic pain, periodontal injury, and the relationship of these increasing alcohol consumption in rats. In my spare time, I like painting, baking and cooking.

Favourite Aspect of the Program to Date

In the first year of the program, I understood what public health encompasses, from conducting outbreak investigations to designing all the components of a health promotion campaign. In the second year, I also had the freedom to personalize my degree by enrolling in courses that aligned with my interests. Lastly, the program has the option of completing two practicum placements, and these opportunities are invaluable for applying public health theory into practice.
