Ontario Small Ruminant Veterinary Conference - Matéa David-Steel

Posted August 15, 2019

It was my pleasure to attend the Ontario Small Ruminant Veterinary Conference at the University Guelph, hosted by the Small Ruminant Veterinarians of Ontario and the University of Guelph, with support from the British Sheep Veterinary Society, on June 18, 2019 (day 2 of the conference). I chose this conference as my CORE activity, as I recently discovered I absolutely love sheep and goats. I handled sheep for the first time in my first year of veterinary school, and I greatly enjoyed working with them.

On Wednesday May 15th I attended the Ontario Institute for Regenerative Medicine (ORIM) for the annual Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Symposium. At which other CORE event can you come face-to-face with a polar bear? Among all the unique events lined up for us as participants of CORE 2019, the Behind-The-Scenes visit to the Toronto Zoo was by far my favourite. The heat of the day and the early morning only added to the special experience.

On May 30th, I was able to attend the Centre of Public Health and Zoonosis (CPHAZ) Annual Symposium. This conference was of interest to me as the One Health concept, that CPHAZ centers around, has become increasingly highlighted in my school career at the Ontario Veterinary College. One Health is the collaborative environment between human, veterinary, and environmental medicine.
