Pet Loss Support Hotline

Mission Statement

"Listening is the best medicine"

We are committed to listening to pet owners and acknowledging the role and value of pets in their lives.

Who we are

We are University of Guelph students who are trained to listen and support callers experiencing grief. We provide a non-judgmental forum in which a caller can express their feelings surrounding the loss (or impending loss) of their pet. We also provide information resources for veterinarians, pet owners and concerned friends and relatives of pet owners regarding pet loss, euthanasia and memorialization of pets. We are not registered professional counselors, psychologists or trained veterinarians.

Our Operation Hours & Contact Information

Tel: 519-824-4120 x53694

Email: petloss@uoguelph.ca

As we are volunteers, and are currently operating on a skeleton staff, we are unable to offer regular weekly hours of operation. Instead, volunteers will check messages daily and return phone calls as soon as possible (usually within 72hrs). The answering service message has been changed to explain this to callers. We also provide phone numbers for crisis intervention on the answering message.

If you are experiencing a mental health challenge or suicide crisis, or if you are a concerned friend, family member or health professional then please contact a local crisis support line or call Community Torchlight (Canada - Guelph/ Wellington/ Dufferin) Local 519-821-0140 or Toll-free 1-877-822-0140).
